Like any kind of text, film has a set of grammatical and structural conventions, similar to written prose. This introductory tutorial looks at the similarities and differences between written text and moving image text, and how to 'read' a film.
We look at the areas of imagination and deduction; time and pacing within a story; narrative point of view; and how film uses a similar structure to printed text's sentences, paragraphs and chapters.
This tutorial will help teachers to better develop lesson plans and use any of the films in our Screening Shorts collection.
